Living Narcissism

In college my mother send me a postcard it read MANDATORY FAMILY GATHERING. We had to go. I was first dating my now husband Bill and I brought him along to meet my mother and step-father at their country house. My mother said be sure to "bring a tent" we don't have room for you. Her house was 18 rooms.
"Put up your tent here, she said tapping her foot on the small square of asphalt. They had 19 acres of farmland and woods. "Would you like a tour of the renovated attic," she asked. We viewed the Better Homes and Gardens perfectly renovated with custom cabinetry TV room.
"We had 16 Japanese exchange students sleepover last week. By this time I was determined to drive back home to Providence, an 80 minute drive. "You can't leave, we haven't taken the family photo," she said. we're taking it tomorrow morning at 9AM sharp."
"She can stay over with us, at our house" her guests said.
Perfect. We drove 2 miles and stayed up all night gossiping about the mistreatment we all received by _______. We were summoned in the morning and then told my husband could NOT be in the photo but the dog could be.
We never went back.
