Sap in the Loins, Spring is Here!

My friend Anita is turning 100 March 21st. She lives in Norwich but grew up here. Lily is turning nine. Spring is here just like it used to be in March growing up in NY. I feel very lucky to have public radio and an amazing dog. I feel lucky to like run of the mill coffee. I like simple things: smashed potatoes and popcorn and orange juice and seltzer.
Yesterday I spoke with my neighbor as I was crossing Onisi's parking lot. My neighbor told me about his grand daughter's new dollhouse and about waking at 4 AM and chasing away the drug dealers by taking out the trash. "I love this neighborhood, he said. Me too I said. It's an adorable ghetto we laughed. He's running a crew of guys, "I tell people I'm a kitchen painter for fancy homes."
"As long as they treat you well," I said.
"They do, they do, but I am stubborn. I have my way of doing things," he said.
"That's okay. We're allowed that, we're old now!" I laughed.
I met a couple at the library who gave me a SLIM JIM for Lily. They looked familiar.
"The last time we saw you you had your broken foot!" they said.

I am full of joy and anger and gratitude this morning. I am already thinking about taking the 3 mile run again. I prefer to run ALONE. I prefer to drink seltzer and orange juice afterwards. I am not afraid of my beloved city. I will run again.

We watched a library film Behind the Glass, last night. It was good.

The private lives of three nouveau riche Croatians are brought to a boil in a love triangle, pinning a self-assured architect between his tart-tongued wife and hilong-suffering mistress, who also happens to be his business partner. When the architecture business begins to struggle, their miseries begin to surface from behind the glass, for everyone to see, and the threesome gradually fall apart, together, through a series of suspenseful spasms.
