What's your dog's name, I asked the boy.
Button, he replied.
That's a great name. She's cute as a Button, I said. He didn't say anything.
Lily is nine, I ventured.
I'm six, he said.
How old is Button? I asked.
She's zero, the boy said.
She couldn't be zero because she's already here, I said.
She's zero years old, he said.
Oh, so how many months is she six, seven, ten? I asked.
Zero. She's zero, the boy insisted.
Just remember Jesus loves you, the boy said as I started walking away, smiling.
He loves you too, I said.
