Grounding Forces

My dentist who has known me since I was 19, loves to tell me "I remember when you were mute, now we can't shut you up!" I laugh because I am lucky to have discovered a way to speak. In my family I couldn't get a word in without being attacked. Even after I ran away I was wary of the world. I knew the first thing I needed was to adopt a dog so I could travel by foot all hours of the day and night. My dog and my oven and my washing machine were the three grounding forces. Now after nearly 4 decades of being an orphan, I see that community is a grounding force and comfort here in my City.
