Response from a Friend
"I run towards things that scare me. I'm not sure why, or where that comes from."
I love that line... been with me since I read it days ago. I don't think of it as a 'moth to flame' allusion, because it's not about self-destructiveness; rather, about creeping along the outside ledge overhanging the tenth floor, wind blowing, miniature motion below, looking down, not to experience fear, but to take in, and briefly rest with, a churning feeling in the gut that begs for an elusive explanation... chaos begets acceptance. The world owes us nothing. The sooner we stop struggling for 'more', the more happiness we find...
Your words reminded me of something that I read by Pema Chodron:
"A further sign of health is that we don't become undone by fear and trembling, but we take it as a message that it's time to stop struggling and look directly at what's threatening us."
