I went to the thrift store yesterday and bought jeans for a dollar and a cotton embroidered blouse for fifty cents. Men's jeans fit me best because I am not built like women with big round hips and an hourglass waist. I wear out the seams of my jeans rapidly from walking miles with my dog each day. I still feel a wave of shame every time I have to spend money, even if it is only a few dollars but I have to do it or else I am wearing rags. The ladies running the religious thrift store gave me chocolate coconut muffin cakes and Indian Naan breads.
Please take them, they said,
we're closed until next week. So I did.
