The Incident

Last night after practicing my new song on the sax, I stepped out with Romeo. I noticed lots of kids and adults were in the street yelling. They all had cell phones. "Could you call the police?" I asked a woman filming. "Someone already has," a lady said. I kept on walking towards the quiet zone of Hazel Street. My new tune was playing over and over in my head protecting me from the drama. Police, detectives, fire and ambulances zoomed by. When I came back from my walk the street had been blocked off and a police officer was unfurling yellow crime tape. "That can't be good," I said. "Some kid got stabbed in the back two times," the girl next door told me, "I could see it from my window." After dinner the sun was setting. I looked out onto the now quiet empty street. I could see a dark red stain on the sidewalk. I hope he makes it.
