Trash Day Blessings or Toothpick Jesus

Last night Bill and I took Romeo for a walk down Hazel Street. We said hi to Manny who was hanging out in his man cave. We walked over and he squatted down to greet Romeo. As we turned the corner I spotted a painting in the trash. I picked it up. It was a portrait of Jesus made from a collage of fabrics. His face and hands were drawn with colored pencil on white fuzzy fabric. The sacred heart was drawn on white card stock and carefully cut out and glued on his chest. His cloak was black velvet. Toothpicks and glitter formed the words bendito esta familia below the portrait. The frame was completely covered with natural toothpicks, arranged in diamond patterns, even on the back. It was genuine outsider art. "Let's give it to Manny," I said. We turned around. "Manny, would you like this? We just found it and thought you might like it," I said. His face lit up. "Bless this family," he read aloud.
"Now your man cave is blessed," I said.
"Thank you," Manny replied.
"This made my day," I said.
