“In my mind, I just have to run more days than Forrest Gump.“

Not only did my streak start, I’ve also turned my passion for running into a business. I worked in a factory for 23 years after high school. After being a part of the amazing Concord running community for years, I realized we needed a running store. Everyone had to go to Charlotte to get shoes, so why not open a store here?

At the time, I was also the one pouring drinks for everyone at parties, so I added another component to my store. I quit the factory job, gathered up my life savings, and, thus, Streakers Cold Beer and Running Gear was born as a running store and bar, named after my running streak. image

That streak just hit 1,000 days this week. My goal is to hit at least 1,200 and maybe longer. In my mind, I just have to run more days than Forrest Gump.

Finally, I am so happy for what this has done for my family. It means the world to me that my kids to be proud of me for changing my life. I’m trying to show them that anything is possible in life if you work hard and stay determined.

Speaking of family, that reminds me of the greatest race I ever ran. It was a 5K in which my 15 year old son and I were neck and neck headed toward the finish line. I yelled at him, “Don’t you let me beat you!” He finished in 20:27. I finished in 20:28. It was the greatest feeling ever. That’s why I love to run 5Ks with my son and daughter. It brings us closer together.

Running has truly saved my life. I’m pretty sure that’s why I opened my store. I host daily running groups and do my best to help runners of all skill levels reach their goals. If I can do it, anyone can.
