Romeo's Nails

I realized Romeo needed his nails trimmed. My husband agreed. Our doggy nail clippers kept jamming. My husband is a tool wizard. He made a repair to the clippers so they worked again. Most of my dogs wear down their nails from walking but Romeo is part terrier and the shape of his paws and angle of his nails are slightly indifferent to sidewalk wear. I do regularly trim his dew claws but those are easier to deal with because they come to a point so I just snip the point like the cat's nails. I was intimidated by Romeo's nails so I watched a short 3 minute video about how to trim your pitbull's nails. The guy was excellent. He said have a friend hold the dog and feed him treats so you get the dog used to the sound of the clippers and he gets a reward. Then take the smallest possible amount off using sharp and right-sized dog nail clippers. The dog and the owner will both be relieved and happy. If you repeat this action every 2 weeks you will get the nails down to size without cutting the quick which can hurt and bleed and scare you both!

Update: When your dog is on the couch or bed resting take a small flashlight and look at the underside of your dog's nails If you see a black or dark gray dot in the center of the nail. You have done enough for a while and should stop. The dot is the beginning of the quick and any further trimming could cause bleeding + pain.
