The Shovel or Confessions of a Crazy Woman

One day last year a neighbor's new red shovel was poking out from the foundation of their building. In a snap judgement, a moment of transmit-mode insanity I decided it was abandoned and walked off with it. For months I'd see it in the spare room and thought about how crazy that was. Just give it back, I told myself in July. A big storm is coming in 2 days. How about now, my mind asked me. I just walked over and knocked on the door. A man answered. I said, This is yours. He said thank you and took it. That was it. I could've been wrong perhaps it belonged to someone else in the building. Nonetheless it wasn't mine and I wasn't going to feel good about using it. End of story.
