Today while swimming I saw a wispy white thing in the lane next to me. It was a tissue. I dove down and grabbed it and it separated into four more wisps. I kept diving until I gathered them all and put them on the deck.
Paul, a fellow swimmer saw me and yelled to me, What are you doing?
Picking up a tissue, I said.
Argh, gross, he said, shuddering.
You, YOU, who's been a cop for 40 years chasing bad guys seeing more horror than we'll ever know, think fishing out a tissue floating in chlorinated water is terrifying and disgusting?" I laughed, smiling. "Think about that!"
