Four Wishes

"We want to celebrate a new chapter, our empty nest, please join us for cocktails," Evelyn said.

"Dan and Evelyn just invited us over for drinks," Colleen shouted out the kitchen window to James. "Should we say yes?"

Dan and James have known each other since their sons were both in boy scouts. Colleen dreads going over but knows James enjoys it. "What the hell. It's a beautiful night and we don't have plans," Dan said washing his hands in the sink.

"I want to hear wishes, Dan shouted starting his second martini. What's your wish?"

"I'll start," Dan said. "I wish for cases of Glenlivet, delivered every month."

"Oooh a subscription, that's serious!" Evelyn said giggling. She licked the salt off of the rim of her Margarita.

"I'm next! I wish for a money tree," Evelyn said. Colleen was hypnotized by the surface of the pool reflecting the little white patio lights. Why in the world does Evelyn think she needs money?

"James?" 

"The collected works of Murakami."

"Wow! Interesting. You. are. the. man." Dan said.

"Colleen?" Caught in a daydream, "I wish I could drink coffee in the afternoon and still be able to sleep at night."
