Ladies Luncheons or how I know I'm an Introvert

#1.

I remember it vividly. The hostess made fresh tomato vegetable soup. One woman brought huge loaves of bread she had made for each of us. It felt like an apology for what I had no idea. I knew all of the women from dog walking in their neighborhood for over 20 years. I knew their dogs. One woman thin as a stick did not eat but everything she said was hilarious.

It was August. One woman said I can't believe you're eating soup. I couldn't believe she could say that when this was what our hostess had made for us along with presenting a platter of fresh mozzarella cheese and salami and fresh bread and  cut raw vegetables. We sat at the island in her bright renovated kitchen.

#2.

The swim ladies. I brought potato salad and a few other things. The ladies had dressed up. I did not. One lady, the skeleton, brought her little chirpy dog and kept feeding him biscotti the hostess had baked and given to us as a gift. I realized the skeleton did this as a way to control the dog on the house tour having no idea about how rude it was. We sat at the island in the fancy renovated kitchen and ate off of blue flowered paper plates with blue plastic forks and knives admiring the hand blown glass lampshades and luxury appliances. Off in the distance was the REAL TABLE set with china. I felt like I had broken into a showroom for a picnic.
