Steve Edwards: To write well—to just come out and say the thing—from that deep, quiet place in you that has always known it but has just now found the words; the gift of that, the big letting go; and the feeling of being, for a moment, exactly and only what you are: temporary, timeless, necessary.

The dishes will not abandon you. I get as tired as anyone of doing them. But then I’m pissed about something and my hands need a task. Or then—sometimes!—I love my life so much I want to slow down and savor it, make it last, and what task is right there to oblige? Damn dishes is right.
