Levels of Fear

I walk downtown in the morning usually returning and picking up library books and in the late afternoon I walk to the pond. I walk as part of my work. What astounds me is the level of fear I encounter talking to women in the suburbs. It's the women along the pond that put GUARD DOG and ALARM SYSTEM signs on their lawns and windows. I have to wonder why are they so terrified. Yesterday one woman told me. "I watch those true story crime shows" she confessed.
"Don't watch them!" I said.
"But I LOVE the science," she said.
She is afraid to walk her dog or be alone in her house even though she is friends with her neighbors who are all "screaming distance" ten feet from her tiny home.
