WOONSOCKET – The Senior Ukrainian Orthodox League of Saint Michael Ukrainian Orthodox Church will hold their first spring-themed cookie walk and bake sale on Saturday, March 19.
For the past 12 years, the Saint Michael parish has hosted a Christmas Cookie Walk and Raffle as a fundraiser for the church. After many requests from the Christmas patrons, a decision was made to sponsor a spring walk of a slightly different nature. The themes of the spring walk will be Easter and spring-themed cookies and pastries, including some Ukrainian specialties such as paskas (Ukrainian Easter bread), fruit and nut rolls, and hrusty (fried dainties sprinkled with powdered sugar.) There will also be limited number of Ukrainian pysanky (Ukrainian decorated Easter eggs) for sale.
This event is being held as a fundraiser for the UOL in conjunction with a major upcoming event. The group will be hosting the National UOL Convention in July of 2017. This will be the first time that the Ocean State has hosted the convention which will see people from all the diocese Ukrainian Orthodox Churches in the United States. The UOL is hoping to showcase a lot of Little Rhody and is raising funds to help defray the costs of such events.
The Cookie Walk and Bake Sale will take place on Saturday, March 19, from 9 to 11 a.m. in the parish hall at 74 Harris Ave. The cookies will sell for $9 per pound and other items will be priced accordingly. Be early for best selections.
