When I was a kid, they didn't give you pens till 4th grade, so you cd make lots of mistakes & find your way, following the sound of graphite.
The smell of pencil shavings=wood, graphite and possibility. It means you just might tell a decent story, that will nourish us, like food.
Wish I cd buy all you writerly types some pencils & a pencil sharpener. The sound of pencils scritch-scratching on paper is sacred, ancient.
Here's how to write: badly, 2 pages at a time, b/c there's a story tugging on your sleeve that has chosen you to tell it, and will help you.
It took a month to get 8 new pages right. I'm ecstatic. There was nothing before and now? A slightly better than shitty 1st draft. A miracle.
