From my experience, Rhode Island is a place not threatened by new people and new ideas, but rather embraces them: “Welcome! We need you!” is a refrain I often hear. I’ll compare tiny Rhode Island’s position between New York and Boston to tiny Belgium’s position between giants like Germany and France. It’s in Belgium you’ll find a remarkable number of great artists for such a relatively small country, and the Belgian people, rather than be offended when you speak to them in English, are insulted if you don’t.
