New Set of Muscles

It was stormy out. There was no way I was going to walk downtown or to the pond so I went to the gym to try out the weight lifting machines. I had to brave the outfit; black stretch pants and a long black T-shirt. It wasn't so bad. There were two women there about my age. They encouraged me to look at the little directional map on each machine and try to follow the steps. Pretty soon I was going from machine to machine lifting the weights at the lowest setting. I didn't count repetitions. I just got acquainted with the feel until I was ready to move on to the next one. I'd like to believe a strong body fosters a strong mind. I was in awe of the engineering and design of each piece of equipment. I was meditatively slow not letting the weights make a sound when they touched. It felt good to use a new set of muscles. Not many people were around so I didn't feel self-conscious. I was lifting weights for an hour but when I got home it felt like I was gone for 3-4 hours. I had visited another planet. Later on I had a bunch of energy and I wondered if weight-lifting was the reason. After shopping I had no trouble lifting the heavy grocery bags out of the car.
