Julia Louis-Dreyfus, accepting her award for best actress in a comedy series at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. She revealed that her father fled religious persecution in Nazi-occupied France.
Asghar Farhadi, whose “The Salesman” is up for an Oscar. “To humiliate one nation with the pretext of guarding the security of another is not a new phenomenon in history and has always laid the groundwork for the creation of future divide and enmity,” Mr. Farhadi said.
Mahershala Ali, accepting the award for outstanding performance by a male actor in a supporting role for “Moonlight.” He spoke of how he and his Christian mother overcame their differences after he converted to Islam 17 years ago.
Michael Moore, speaking out against President George W. Bush and the war in Iraq, in 2003, as he accepted the Oscar for best documentary feature for “Bowling for Columbine.”
