Lifeguard

The young lifeguard with very white teeth is planning to become an anesthesiologist.
"I hear you want to be an anesthesiologist," I said.
"Yes I do."
"Have you ever had anesthesia before?"
"No."
It's a trippy thing. Most of all you want to TRUST your doctor because you are injected and then poof you wake up in the waiting room," I said laughing. "I had my wisdom teeth pulled when I was 20 and my tonsils and appendix out when I was 5 & 6. I remember those experiences vividly. Back then in 1965 they gave me ether in what looked like a colander placed over my nose and mouth. Then I saw a whole bunch of dots filling in and the doctor's face hovering over me. My mother was walking backwards and waving and smiling her classic red lipstick toothy smile. I woke up exhausted and wasted, feeling hung over.
