Yesterday I saw a man walking down Social Street with a black cat on his shoulders. The cat wore a leash and the man was wearing an army green backpack. As the man passed me on the sidewalk the cat arched his back Halloween style and hissed.
This morning the rain was insane. There was no way I was going out walking to the Y in torrential rain. By mid-morning I was agitated. I needed the physicality of swimming to center myself. I decided to use Bill's rowing machine. It felt great. It has a flow to it, a bit like swimming the crawl. Time slowed down. I wore a blindfold. I lasted 30 minutes and almost broke a sweat.
Then the rain stopped enough for me to walk Romeo downtown. I ran into one of the
undercover detectives. He was wearing a baseball cap and now had a salt and pepper
beard. He was surprised that I recognized him. You're good, he said.
I remember faces, that's all. We all have our specialty.
I wish I was one of you guys.
We could use your help.
I'd be honored, I
said.
