Early or For a Sweet New Year

Yesterday I had to walk down stairs sideways. My muscles were sore from dancing. It was breezy and my hair was flying loose. A perfect day. I'm glad I can walk long walks again and it's not too hot. I wore my red sweatshirt. "We'll have about a dozen Indian summers before the snow. I'm good with that." I told a guy complaining about the cool (70 degree) weather. I am eying the pear on the trees and my favorite apple trees. I have to check on the peach trees. And Manny and Brenda's tree has been dropping apples since August.

I am deeply sad to learn of another friend's suicide. Walking is my way of thinking and composing. I'm glad I can walk long walks again and it's not too hot. I wore my red sweatshirt yesterday. We'll have about a dozen Indian summers before the snow. I'm good with that.

Yesterday after standing at my desk since 4 AM, I walked downtown and everyone was in a good mood and talkative. A woman told me she just moved here and I told her she will love this city. "People are friendly here," I said. "Yes I've noticed that" she said. I'm from Warwick, she said but I grew up in Bristol. She told me she was hit by a drunk driver crossing the street on a November day a few years ago and is waiting for the settlement. I told her a friend of mine was hit by a drunk crossing during the day too and was thrown onto the windshield of the car. Her hair was in a bun and when she fell back, that saved her head and neck. "So it's good to wear a bun," I said."You're funny!" she said and we laughed together. I love talking to strangers because they are never strangers for long.

I'm glad I can walk long walks again with my dog and my healed foot. It's not too hot. I wore my red sweatshirt yesterday and my black hat and yellow scarf last night when I walked.

Happy Rosh Hashana The Jewish New Year
Eat an apple and honey and peaches to be inscribed for a sweet new year.
