I'm sure you understand

Okay on Saturday I got an email from a west coast friend that she was in RI because her mother was dying. "Would you like to come over? I am cooking and baking today," I said.
"I am deciding on whether to rent a car," she replied.
"The bus goes 2 blocks from my house," I said.
Next day she emailed, "I rented a car."
"Great. Would you like to come over?"
"How about tomorrow?" she replied
"What time?" she asked.
"4PM, come for dinner," I said.
"Okay. What shall I bring?" she asked.
"Anything you want, surprise me."
This morning 7AM "I'm not coming. I don't want to drive at night. I'm sure you understand."
