Monday Laundry

The washing machine is my favorite invention. I do not take it for granted that my laundry is being swished and soaped and spun by a machine in my very own cellar. When it's complete I hang the clothes on a clothesline in the boiler room. When I first met my husband 33 years ago he was regularly washing his clothes in a claw-foot tub and hung them on a homemade clothes line directly above. He remembers when his mom had an old fashioned washing machine with a wringer attachment. Why do I love to wash my clothes? I think it's because it is a tangible comfort.
