Fire-Escape Man

I just looked out my back door and saw a guy in a bright red hooded sweatshirt squeeze out of an apartment window, climb onto the fire escape upper level and lift my neighbor Joey's screen window. He may have tried the window and it was locked. Or maybe he saw me. He turned around and went back down into the apartment below.

I immediately phoned dispatch. They sent 2 police and they came to the front of my house and they asked if they could come through to see exactly which windows. I recognized one of the cops from my Citizen's Academy training class a few years ago. I said, "sure."

Then they left out the front and a few minutes later I saw the cop I know climb out onto the fire escape from Alma's window and he tried Joey's screen and it went up but not the window, supporting my story.

I just wrote an e-mail to Joey and his sister Laura letting them know. They have lived in that apartment for over 20 years. They are like my extended family.

I am still trembling.
