Mack and Birch

The retired lawyer Harold Moss was vacationing in Florida. He had been alerted on his Ring doorbell camera that there was an intruder at his home in Rhode Island. So patrol officers Mack and Birch had to go check the place out.

North Kingstown, Rhode Island was the toniest of tony suburbs. Nothing exciting ever happened here. Mack was already sorry he made the transfer from the lively City of Woonsocket police department. Now he was dying of boredom.

They entered through the three car garage and had their guns drawn as they crept through every room, opening every closet. Nada. Zilch. Nothing here. Mack spotted a squirrel running across the flagstone patio while he stood in the vacant pristine kitchen. He felt like he was standing on TV stage set.

The rich lead such dull lives, he thought, regretting his transfer. They locked up the house and got back into their SUV. "Wow, that felt great," Birch said, turning around on the gravel driveway "I haven't taken my gun out in years!"
