Wild Rice and Red Paint

One of the many blessings of bipolar is we need not pay money to go on a cruise, buy plane tickets or sail to far corners of the earth because the vacation comes to us 2x a year in the form of a new head.

This morning I am remembering making wild rice for my step father  for dinner and his response was to scold me about the cost of the rice.

And when I made a Klimt inspired oil painting starring me and my boyfriend Peter Spock. He scolded me about the cost of red oil paint.

This is the man who had overseas vacations and a live in maid and nannies and 3 Volvos and a gigantic country house to entertain clients EVERY WEEKEND with gourmet foods purchased at Mecurios the Italian specialty shop. I was the terrible daughter for cooking rice and using red paint.

The real sin was I was now 16 on the threshold of my own life. I went from favorite daughter to the devil all because I sprouted into a young woman. The Queen convinced the King that I didn't deserve to live, thrive laugh and love. She had plans.

She wanted me tied to her an idiot savant with a colostomy in a wheelchair. Such a fine picture to have for your daughter. Luckily my Grandparents and teachers reflected a better picture and helped me escape! I ran away to Brooklyn and then lived in a tiny apartment in Chinatown NYC and found a job as a cashier at Gillies 1840 health food store and coffee shop in the village. I was 17 and technically it was illegal for me to work especially until 11 PM! I would run home to my little apartment through little Italy into Chinatown.
