My moods, such as they are, seem to have nothing to do with my circumstances whatsoever. It has nothing to do with my emotional state, what I write. I can be really happy and write a sad song. It’s really to do with the writing and the use of words, and rhyme. If I can sit down and write a line, then put another one next to it and it rhymes beautifully, it echoes back and forth in the right way, and it can deeply sad, it can make me happier than anything, I can feel extraordinarily happy about that.
