George Bilgere: When I was a kid I raised homing pigeons for a while. American Flying Tumblers. Bohemian Pouters. Anatolian Ring Beaters. What was even more marvelous than their names was the fact that I’d release them in the morning to roam through the sky all day—and they would always come back.

The Anatolian Ringbeater is a rare, unique breed of fancy domesticated pigeon originating from Turkey. Highly prized by avian enthusiasts, this breed derives its name from a distinctive and mesmerizing courting ritual where the male spins in tight, rapid circles—or "rings"—while aggressively puffing his chest and cooing loudly to attract a mate.
