This Morning

This morning Main Street was blocked off. "A drunk driver hit a telephone pole at 2AM in front of Sunrise Pizza, knocking it down," a man said as I was walking by the orange cones with Romeo in tow. I enjoyed seeing the normally busy street as an expanse of empty pavement. It was like a winter block party without people. An inch of snow had just fallen. Romeo stopped a few times lifting his hind leg in pain when salt got in between his paw's pads. I cleared them out and we avoided the treated sidewalks by walking on the grassy path under the trees. When we got home I brought Romeo into my office. He chewed his dog-bone while I scribbled and then then he got into the froth which meant he needed a nap. So I put him to bed and went back to my office. Eventually I left to go swimming. When I got to the pool there were sunbeams in the water. I felt like a winter goldfish.
