Parents or other caregivers with Munchausen by proxy syndrome have common traits. They may demonstrate many of these characteristics:

Is a parent or caregiver—usually a mother
Often a woman between the ages of 20 and 40
Might be a healthcare professional
Acts very friendly and cooperative with healthcare providers
Appears very concerned about their child’s health
Seems to be particularly interested in and knowledgeable about medical details

Very comfortable in the hospital environment
Becomes angry if doctors tell them nothing is wrong
Has problems with identity and self-esteem
