Susan Friendson

Out and about, driving in Eugene changes often. Sometimes you’re in traffic, where for the most part people are patient vs entitled. I love not feeling the aggression of East Coast loco-motion drama. But the Eugene lanes are narrow in some places, which can produce a smidge of anxiety. Presumably the pavement was meant for narrower cars. Wait – maybe when the bike lanes were added they had to minimize the car length width? Makes more sense. Like, those old DeSotos etc. had impressive girth. As I drive, I’m attentive to the presence of many people on bikes and on foot.

Some roads wind quietly around curves, ascending and descending. Turkeys stroll by often. The hummingbird came back. Here, I have so much room to breathe that even mistakes amuse me. I remember my nature.
