I usually lift off after ten weeks of living in the dark emotional mud so I know when to expect a shift. Every phase has a theme and there are four shifts in a year, just like the seasons. This past seasons theme was about grieving life's changes. I try to lift the lows and tame the highs and steer my energies towards something nourishing and enriching like my work and my community. I feel lucky to have community built on my 27 years of walking around the city. When my mood lifts up I know because along with feeling good I am very enchanted by sensory. I wash my dog and hug her, I'm suddenly enthralled by music, aromas, words.
I have made soup and bread nearly every day this week, my winter comfort food. The best thing I can do for my cyclothymic nature besides my art is to take notes and be athletic. See patterns! Steer the profound mood states towards creative healthy activities. Know thyself.
