Representative
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fired back at President Trump after he lashed
out at her on social media following her suggestion that he be impeached
over his decision to bomb Iran without consulting Congress.
On
Saturday, Trump ordered attacks on three Iranian nuclear sites, which
some members of Congress from both parties deemed unconstitutional.
Ocasio-Cortez went further, saying Trump’s decision to strike without
congressional approval was an impeachable offense.
On
social media Tuesday, Trump lobbed insults at AOC while also taking
shots at Democratic Representatives Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Jasmine
Crockett of Texas.
“Stupid
AOC, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, one of the ‘dumbest’ people in Congress,
is now calling for my Impeachment, despite the fact that the Crooked
and Corrupt Democrats have already done that twice before,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform as he was traveling to the NATO summit in the Netherlands.
“Instead
of her constant complaining, Alexandria should go back home to Queens,
where I was also brought up, and straighten out her filthy, disgusting,
crime ridden streets, in the District she ‘represents,’ and which she
never goes to anymore,” Trump added.
Trump
concluded by daring Ocasio-Cortez and the Democrats to try to remove
him from office: “So go ahead and try Impeaching me, again, MAKE MY
DAY!”
Ocasio-Cortez hit back on social media, doubling down on her stance that the US strikes were illegal.
“Mr. President, don’t take your anger out on me — I’m just a silly girl,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on X.
“Take
it out on whoever convinced you to betray the American people and our
Constitution by illegally bombing Iran and dragging us into war. It only
took you 5 months to break almost every promise you made,” she added.
“Also, I’m a Bronx girl,” Ocasio-Cortez fired back in a separate post. “You should know that we can eat Queens boys for breakfast. Respectfully.”
While several members of Congress, including New England lawmakers, raised concerns about the Iran strikes, Ocasio-Cortez called the move a “grave violation.”
“The
President’s disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorization is a
grave violation of the Constitution and Congressional War Powers,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on X. “He has impulsively risked launching a war that may ensnare us for generations.”
The House on Tuesday voted overwhelmingly to kill an effort to impeach Trump after Texas Representative Al Green filed an article of impeachment.
Though
dozens of Democrats backed the impeachment effort, most sided with the
Republican majority to table the measure. The vote was 344-79.
