We took a quick walk to Walgreen's to buy Draino. As we were at the checkout someone said "fire!" I saw three little round globe-shaped shrubs on Clinton Street enveloped in flames. "Call 911, does someone have a phone and can call the fire dept," I asked the crowd at the entrance, watching, mesmerized.
A policeman arrived and took out a small red fire extinguisher from the back of his SUV. Then the fire truck arrived and soaked the shrubs and wood-chip mulch which had ignited like a tinder box. I recognized one of our neighborhood patrolmen and went over and said hello.
"That was pretty dramatic for just going and buying a bottle of Draino," my husband said.
"You never know, until you step out," I said.
