I did it. I came home from my walk and made bannocks and I wasn't disappointed. I used the steel cut oats, whole wheat flour buttermilk salt baking soda baking powder and unsalted butter. I also used my food processor to grind the oats-- something the Scots didn't have in their time.
They taste like an Emily cookie; not too sweet very textured and good with strong tea.
