August 11, 2015 WOONSOCKET CALL

JOSEPH B. NADEAU
NORTH SMITHFIELD – Scott Goodwin had one of those days on Saturday that animal control officers sometimes have – the discovery of an unexpected creature in a place it shouldn’t be.
Goodwin received a call from the police department about a long snake at a home on Main Street in Slatersville on Saturday, and went over to talk with the elderly woman who had discovered it at around 3 p.m.
The resident said she had seen the snake outside sunning itself near her air conditioning unit, so Goodwin went to take a look.
After ensuring that the woman was away at a safe distance, Goodwin began poking around the air conditioner that was connected to the home.
“I poked at it from behind and it came out,” he said. The snake was nine feet long and about six inches around, the North Smithfield ACO said.
