Johannesburg - Three suspected rhino poachers were arrested, three were killed and four managed to escape arrest during anti-poaching operations in the Kruger National Park this week, SA National Parks said on Friday.
On Monday, rangers in the Phalaborwa area of the park fatally wounded one suspect, while two others got away, said spokesperson Reynold Thakhuli in statement.
In an operation in the Lower Sabie section of the park on Wednesday three suspected poachers were wounded and arrested, he said.
They were sent to hospital under police guard.
On Thursday night in two separate incidents in the Pretoriuskop area, two suspected poachers were left dead and four managed to escape.
Hunting rifles, ammunition and poaching equipment were recovered during the operations.
There had been an increase in the number of contacts with poachers in 2014, Thakhuli said.
A total of 164 suspected poachers had been arrested in the park since the beginning of the year.
