Last night we walked along the pond on Edgewater Drive. We noticed the
folks just below the end of Champlain Ave behind the apple trees, were
using their gas grill when it burst into flames. I heard the husband
tell the wife "please get out of the house now." And then he said "go
across the street and ask the neighbors if they have a fire
extinguisher." The neighbor had a friend visiting who happened to have a
gigantic red fire extinguisher in his big white pickup truck. He rushed
over and whoosh, in a big sweep spraying huge white clouds, he put it out.
"Don't keep your grill against your house," he said to the stunned
neighbors. "You are a hero," I said. Now I know the true importance of the fire extinguisher: you might not need it, but your neighbor might.
