Cortland apples are a good choice for this recipe according
to the people at Brookfield Orchards. These dumplings also freeze well,
they say. The recipe is simple: a formula for one dumping.
Preheat oven to 350º F.
Peel
and core an apple and place it in the center of a square of puff
pastry. Mix a tablespoon of sugar with cinnamon and nutmeg to taste, and
pour the mixture into the center hole of the apple. Wrap the pastry
around the apple, and place it in a baking pan. Bake for one hour or
until the apple is cooked and crust is brown. Serve warm plain or with
cheese, ice cream or whipped cream.
