Romeo-Boy

On my way home, walking with my dog Romeo, I saw a package at my friend the priest's door. The door has a sign: DO NOT LEAVE PACKAGES HERE. So I rang his bell so he would find his package, and we had a little visit. We spoke of his painter friend, whose son I had seen recently. "He's a really good painter. Here, look." He ran back into the house and brought out a painting to show me. I loved the painting.

But then his dog ran out unexpectedly and attacked my dog, who was tied up at the gate. The dog latched onto Romeo's ear until my friend whacked his dog repeatedly, while still holding the painting. The angry dog finally let go, and I grabbed Romeo's leash and ran.

Romeo is missing the lower edge of his right ear and has a gash and a scrape inside and behind the ear. There was lots of blood. I sopped it up with paper towels and I cleaned the wound. I called my vet. He was away but the vet tech spoke with me. We decided I could wait to see my vet.

I found an old neck gator that had lost its elasticity and arranged it on Romeo's head so he can't paw at his ear and make it bleed. He's now wearing a  turquoise man-bun headdress. We tied a knot so that it is protecting his ear from his shaking. We gave him buffered aspirin, but he still yelps in pain sometimes when he moves. And I am still shaking. We have an appointment with the vet for Monday.
