Free giving is hard to do. Most of the time when I give a gift of my home made sourdough bread or my home made applesauce as a house gift, I am hoping the recipient will enjoy them as part of the meal. Countless times the receiving hostess squirrels away my gift and nobody not even her husband knows about it. If I was inclined I'd write to Miss Manners but she'd probably say this is the right of the hostess. So I believe I am not giving freely enough if I am hoping my bread or applesauce will be acknowledged. Free giving has no strings attached.
