WOONSOCKET, RI—The former Walmart on Diamond Hill Road might soon be an indoor recreational trampoline facility and storage center.

Woonsocket Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt announced Wednesday that that Ryan Finnegan of Hilliard, Ohio, will buy the property and will seek permits for the new facility.

The plan is to dedicate 48,000 square feet of the building to “a unique state-of-the-art trampoline park,” the mayor said in a news release.

The rest of the space, about 74,000 square feet, will be for climate-controlled storage with indoor loading, a mezzanine, and satellite radio.

Finnegan is due to appear before the city Zoning Board on March 14 to seek a special use permit.

There’s also the possibility of ”potential restaurant and retail space” for the out parcels, the mayor said.

“We are excited for this development opportunity and look forward to becoming a part of the Woonsocket community,” Finnegan said. “It has been a pleasure working with the Mayor and her staff. Their commitment to making business work in Woonsocket was critical to our decision to invest in the City. We feel this project will bring great value to the community.”

Baldelli-Hunt said she has been working with Walmart to find a buyer or a tenant “hoping to spur more development in the area. The mix of restaurant, retail, cutting edge recreational facility and a premier storage facility should serve as a great anchor and hopefully spark more interest in this vital commercial area within the city.”

If the approval process is smooth sailing, the 4- to 5-month construction period could lead to an opening date this fall.

DesignHaus of Michigan is the project architect.
