Five Mile Solitude with Dog
I walked towards the sun because it was 20 degrees. I warmed up by the time I got to Main Street and then over the waterfall onto South Main Street. The parking lots were overflowing at River falls. People were lined up to have family style Broasted Chicken. I saw an abandoned house on South Main, a Victorian that I must tell K about. I noticed Hugh Everett's old house and a few other houses that have been re-painted in dark colors since the last time I walked on those streets. I almost walked all the way to Wright's Dairy but I got HUNGRY and I was not carrying anything except a house key. So I turned around and started walking home. I ran into my friends Dr. Bart and Marissa Massucco working on their veterinary clinic on Social Street, Cityside Vet Clinic which will be open soon. When I got home I reheated small cheesy white garlicky pasta shells and kale from last night and added all of the hot sauces from the door of my fridge. Five mile walks in 20 degree weather bring on my appetite. Appetite is my best friend and a willing audience because I LOVE to cook in my daily solitude. I flicked on the radio and heard one of my favorite food writers, Naomi Duguid.
