The Horror-days

Remembering when I was in my early 20's. It was the year my train money was stolen out of my wallet. I had to find a way to get home for Thanksgiving. When I phoned home to explain how I'd have to take the later train my mother said, If you're not here by seven don't bother coming.

So I didn't.

And the year we were told 17 Japanese exchange students had slept over my parents house on a visit in the summer but the following Christmas we were told there was no room for us. Then we were told that we could stay at a hotel. No thanks.

That's when I realized they were never my family. It was time to embrace ORPHAN status.
