I should call her Blanche

Yesterday I drove my Kitchen Aid mixer to Marshall Electric in Providence for a tune up! It probably just needs to be oiled. When I watched the youtube guy taking one apart it was like watching surgery. I began feeling faint. I decided I didn't want to go to appliance repair school. Let the technicians do it.

She's a workhorse and I've had her for over 30 years. I've tuned her up at Marshall Electric once before when she started having that gnarly gears sound at age 17. I bought her new from them in the early 90's and after years of wanting one. I remember the day it was in September. A young slender sales woman was seated in the store reading a thick paperback. We got chatting. This woman reads and she is nice. I'm going to buy the mixer.

I remember I strapped her (still in the box) into the front seat of my old blue Chevy truck and drover her home. I promised myself I'd never buy bread again. I used her to knead multigrain bread dough every week and wholegrain applesauce Bundt cakes, carrot cakes, cornbread and biscotti to this day.

Now I use the no knead method for bread which just rises in a bucket in my fridge overnight but I still love her and am going to use her for my latest biscotti baking bender.

I should call her Blanche because she has a long neck and exposed arms named after Blanche Dubois from A Streetcar Named Desire. Since I am Stella my mixer will be Blanche. I'll admit she never had a name until now. But she's only 30 and life begins at 40.
