Broken Promises

One day in 2nd grade I came home from school I rushed upstairs to find my view master with my Bugs Bunny slides were gone. My mother said, "I gave them all away to Jean, her family has nothing." The message was always the same You do not deserve anything that you have. And I can take it all back at any moment. She took back Christmas presents, books and clothes that she purchased for me. She took my Birthday cash and made me buy gifts for HER! She didn't let me enjoy, eat or look out at the view out the window from her house in the country. I wasn't allowed to talk with my Grandparents when they visited. I had to stay inside wand dry the dishes.

It's taken me 65 years to learn that I am allowed to receive a gift. I don't have to rescue everything from the trash or a dumpster.
