WOONSOCKET – A Texas businessman who wants to convert the old Lowe’s home improvement building into an indoor shrimp farm is very close to making a deal to acquire the site, officials say.

The aquaculture entrepreneur officials identified as Richard Morgan of Dallas met at City Hall Wednesday with Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt and top officials of the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation, including Commerce Secretary Stefan Pryor and Senior Advisor Marcel A. Valois. Morgan later toured the 143,000-square-foot building located at 2000 Diamond Hill Road with Planning Director N. David Bouley and Special Projects Coordinator Joel Mathews.
